I knew “Dang” last year on the plane, flight from Bangkok to Sydney.

She added that John, her boyfriend, had told her that when she arrived Australia and met the immigration officer, she just handed him the letter that John wrote but Dang was still afraid that the officers would investigate her so she asked me for a help.

Well, I was curious how she knew her boyfriend and followed him to Australia. Despite she couldn’t speak and listen English at all.

That day Dang was lucky. After the immigration officer had read her boyfriend’s letter, she was easily passed to the country, without being investigated anything else.

After that, I hadn’t met her anymore. Until last New Year, I met her again at Thai temple in Sydney.

Dang come to make merit with her friends. She invited me to have lunch together.

Then, her real life story and her friends’ were told.

Dang and her friends who come to make merit, each had the career that the society despised.

They were prostitutes.

Everyone come to Australia by different ways.

They all had hope and dream that one day they would grab Australian dollars back to Thailand to build a house and settle down a new life and new family.

Some dreamed that they could find a good foreign husband to take care of her and would have 2 or 3 cute half-blood children.

Some dreamed of opening a Thai restaurant. Etc.

However, how many of them had their wishes fulfilled, I’m still curious about that.

At least, I only prayed that they wouldn’t be like a Thai unfortunate girl who was appeared in the news last year.

That unfortunate girl was a prostitute who evaded to come to the city and worked at King Cross, sensual place which was like Thailand’s Pat Pong.

She was arrested by the immigration officer and was detained at detention centre but she didn’t live long because she was drug-addict and had aids.

After appeared on the news hugely, the reporters dug up her gloomy life.

They found that she was sold by her parents to work as prostitute since she was young before she illegally come to Australia, working as prostitute and satisfying lustful men.

It was the novel, “Mae Aye Sa Uen”, modern edition.

So, back to the story that I was told by Dang and her friends.
